Hate crime is a reality for many people in our region who do not always find the right support to deal with hate crime offences. HANA has been a hate crime reporting centre for quite some time, but we have not had the resources to employ staff to deal with specific incidents.

With the support of Equalities and Human Rights Commission, HANA has started the Open Up project which will reduce the impact of hate crime by providing effective mechanisms to support the needs of victims, raise awareness of the impact of certain crimes against particular groups and pool existing resources to maximise the reach and influence of support services.

Considering the number of hate crime incidents being reported to HANA, we believe that this project will play an extremely important role in the sub-region. Among other things, this project will help create hate-free neighborhoods, workplaces and schools. It will also provide community members with innovative ways of responding when hate crime happens. 
We aim to work with other support services to ensure that each case is dealt with effectively and conclusively.

Keeping with the principle of equal rights for all, HANA unequivocally oppose any manifestation of hatred and prejudice towards any group or individual in the Humberside region.
