For HANA, volunteering is one way that people from the local community can be involved, giving them the opportunity to become representatives for BME communities.
We welcome the involvement of volunteers in our organisation because of the unique qualities they bring.
A ‘Volunteer’ is defined as someone who commits time and energy for the benefit of others, who does so freely, through personal choice and without expectation of financial reward, except for the payment of actual out of pocket expenses.
In HANA a Volunteer is a person who makes a commitment to support the work of staff in order to enhance the provision of services. People volunteer to do all sorts of roles, from helping out a few hours with admin to representing HANA in community meetings and events. We train all our volunteers for the roles they choose, and we give them support and supervision to make sure that they are happy with the volunteering that they are doing.
HANA acknowledges that volunteering is a two way process. The volunteer contributes to the work of HANA and in turn HANA provides the opportunity for the volunteer to meet people, gain new skills, and experience a sense of satisfaction from the work they do. Across the organisation the volunteers bring with them a wealth of both professional and personal skills.
