Community Cafe Offers Traditional Food From Around the Globe

The kitchen at the Community Enterprise Centre has now opened to the public offering a variety of food from around the globe. The Jama Group has started the week offering Ghanaian food such as special jollof rice and crispy chicken with fresh salads. The Russian Group's menu includes traditional Russian pancakes stuffed with chicken and mushrooms and the Orthodox Church Project has a menu including different Eastern European dishes. Gvants Lakh Kushia will be offering a selection of Indian cuisine dishes such as samosas, onion bhajis and pakoras, apart from their traditional curries. The purpose of the community kitchen is to offer opportunities to community groups to make the public aware of the diveristy of traditional food cooked by the diverse communities living in the City of Hull.

In recent months, HANA has offered free training leading towards the Food Hygiene Certificate through the DRE project, and more than 250 people from ethnic minority backgrounds achieved this qualification.

In partnership with DOC, the 'Cooking Pot' project is now is now well established and we all are looking forward to the 'Cooking Pot' evenings. HANA members are involved in the project and community associations such as the Jama Ghanaian Group, Women Accede, Hon Lohk Senior Association, Russian Group, Latvian Communities, Mexican Folklore - Association of Latin American Communities and others have expressed interest in organising 'Cooking Pot' events. For further information, and if your group wants to become involved in this project, you can contact HANA or DOC at the Community Enterprise Centre.
