First Results for HANA Survey of BME and Migrant Community Groups

Nine groups have submitted information as part of the HANA members' survey, launched in September 2011. This represents a quarter of HANA's members, although respondents to date include one group not currently a member.

The survey results begin to give an impression of the scale variety of activity and engagement of BME and migrant communities in and around Hull.

Impressively, these nine groups together involved no less than 37 committee members, and employ 7 people (two organisations each employ 4 and 3 people). They boast the involvement of 50 volunteers, and between them have a membership of no fewer than 606 people.

We already knew that BME and migrant community groups extend beyond the city boundraries, but between them these nine groups have members spread throughout the Humber and as far as Norfolk and Scotland.

The majority of the groups run social gatherings, educational activities and sporting and cultural activities for their members and the public.

The summary of our survey results to date can be read here.
